The Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Project is completely focused on the reality of the society that intends to empower. That depends on the many taboos that still have a big importance in the rural society and that lead girls to leave school at a very young age: UNICEF estimates that girls lack classes between 4 up to 5 days during menstruation and one girl in ten quits school. Due this, its frequent to young girl to get pregnant and be married at a very young age, estimations from The Tanzanian Demographic Health Survey say that in Tanzania pregnancy has increased from 23% in 2010 to 27%in 2016 and that 4 out of 10 girls are married before their 18th birthday.
The practical solutions that our project offers are:
- Awareness building and knowledge improvement
- Peer to peer approach
- Distribution of reusable sanitary pads.
